The BEWBU project partners gathered at the University of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 22 September 2026 for the first day of the physical workshop dedicated to reviewing the implementation of blended education courses during the summer semester.
Hosted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Mostar, the meeting brings together representatives of the partner universities from the Western Balkans and EU partner institutions to exchange experiences, reflect on the implementation of blended education, and identify opportunities for further improvement. The workshop is part of the Erasmus+ project “Blended Education in Western Balkans Universities – BEWBU.”
The meeting opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Sanja Bijakšić, Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Mostar, followed by Elda Tartari, BEWBU Project Coordinator, and practical information provided by Jelena Jurčić, BEWBU Project Manager on behalf of the University of Mostar.
A central focus of Day 1 was the presentation and discussion of courses that were implemented using blended education approaches during the summer semester. Colleagues from partner universities shared their experiences from courses including English Syntax, Psychology of Foreign Language Acquisition, Digital Educational Environments, Listening Skills, Research Seminar, and The Use of Technology in Education.
The presentations went beyond describing the courses and provided an opportunity to reflect on the blended education models applied, the balance between online and face-to-face activities, digital tools and learning management systems, student participation and engagement, assessment methods, achievements, implementation challenges, and student feedback.
The afternoon shifted from presentation to collaborative work through the Practical Workshop: Blended Course Improvement Lab. Working in mixed partner groups, participants examined implemented courses as practical cases, identifying strengths, implementation challenges, and concrete areas for improvement. Particular attention was given to reviewing the balance between online and face-to-face learning activities.
Through a Peer Feedback & Gallery Walk, the groups shared their proposed improvements and received practical comments and recommendations from colleagues. The day concluded with a joint synthesis aimed at identifying priority actions and recommendations to inform the next implementation cycle and highlighting issues requiring follow-up at consortium level.
Day 1 demonstrated an important transition for BEWBU: from designing blended education approaches to learning systematically from their implementation in real university courses. The experiences shared in Mostar will contribute to the continuous improvement of blended teaching and learning across the partner institutions.
